The Judges

The big burger cook-off in St. Louis hit the spot with local foodies who showed up by hundreds in the parking lot of Whole Foods Market in Brentwood.  Sponsored by Rain Crow Ranch – American Grassfed Beef, Schlafly Beer and Feast Magazine the event could not have been better.  Great evening weather, entertainment by Swing Deville, the best burgers in town.  It was topped off with a one-day only sale on Rain Crow Ranch grassfed beef in the meat case at Whole Foods Market.

It was an honor to be invited along with Feast Magazine’s Catherine Neville to judge part of the contest.  We were treated to having our burgers brought to the judges table rather than braving the long lines.  The difficult part was deciding on a particular winner.  So there was a people’s choice and a judges’ choice.

The celebrities were the chefs that created the amazing burgers.

Five Bistro and Chef Anthony Devoti has been a longtime friend of Rain Crow Ranch and honors us by sourcing his grassfed beef from our farm.  The restaurant is located at 5100 Daggett Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110 (314-773-5553). We love this chef’s passion for farm-to-table cooking.  His burger was perfectly cooked and textured simply accompanied by a tomato bacon jam served on a pretzel roll.  This burger was Mark’s top favorite.

Baileys’ Range by David Bailey is another friend of Rain Crow Ranch in that they source their grassfed beef from our farm.  This place has absolutely fabulous shakes and weekly burger battles located on the corner of 10th & Olive in Downtown STL (314.241.8121). The burger created for the cook-off was a smoked bacon cheeseburger stuffed with chimay and fontina cheeses, candied bacon, onions, lettuce and tomato between a house-made bun.  This was Patti’s favorite of the night.

Acero is one of Jimmy Fiala’s wonderful places under the talent of Chef Adam Gnau.  Love, love, love this place and they also source grassfed beef from Rain Crow Ranch.  The burger created had a liver mouse with cremini mushrooms and onions.  It had wonderful flavor and high on all the judges’ list. Acero is located at 7266 Manchester Road, Maplewood, MO  (314-644-1790).
